A free violin fingerboard app for every one of Kreutzer’s 42 studies: the music with string and finger numbers, double stops and chords, the fingerboard lighting up as it plays, and slow-practice tempos — from Aria’s Violin Studio in Auckland, New Zealand.
Rodolphe Kreutzer’s 42 Studies are the classic études for intermediate and advanced violinists: détaché and martelé bowing, shifting and the higher positions, trills, and finally double stops and chords. Most students start them after Wohlfahrt and Kayser.
Choose a Kreutzer study below and open its fingerboard app. Start slowly (the Slow speed is ♩ = 40), settle the intonation and the shifts, then move up through Moderate, Aim and Fast. Trills and grace notes are written out, so you can hear exactly how they go at any speed.
🔍 Aria is currently auditing the fingerings and notes. If you find a mistake in the music, you’re very welcome to send a message to Aria at aria135246@gmail.com. Please say which study, which bar, and what looks wrong.
Music: Rodolphe Kreutzer (1766–1831), public domain. The notes were read from the 1908 B. F. Wood edition revised by C. Grün (IMSLP, public domain). Transcription, written-out ornaments and fingering by Aria’s Violin Studio, keeping the edition’s printed fingers (credits).
Select a study number to jump to it. Each 🎻 violin fingerboard app shows the music with string and finger numbers, lights up the fingerboard as it plays, has slow-practice tempos, and makes a printable PDF. Numbers marked ♫ have double stops or chords (up to four notes).
