Who made the apps

The interactive practice apps on this website (the violin fingerboards, Scales on the Fingerboard, Sight-Reading on the Fingerboard, Famous Songs, the Wohlfahrt and Kreutzer studies, MIDI to Violin Fingerboard, the Practice Plan Builder and many of the games) were co-developed by Aria Z Li and Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic.

Aria designed each app around her teaching. She decided what students need and how each app should work, chose the music, set the fingering and practice speeds, and checked the results. Claude wrote much of the program code, converted and arranged the music data, and wrote the original sight-reading pieces to Aria’s rules. Aria remains responsible for the content, and the apps are © Aria Education Limited.

Wohlfahrt 60 Studies, Op. 45 (fingerboard apps)

The music of Franz Wohlfahrt (1833–1884) is in the public domain. The notes used in our Wohlfahrt fingerboard apps come from Philipp Büttgenbach’s engraving of the G. Schirmer edition (edited by Gaston Blay), published on IMSLP (file #449577) under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence.

What we changed: the music was converted into playable data for the violin fingerboard; string and finger numbers were added and adjusted by Aria’s Violin Studio (keeping the edition’s own finger numbers where possible); double stops are shown by their top note and grace notes are left out; practice speeds were added.

Licence of our version: the Wohlfahrt music data (the file wohlfahrt-studies.js, and the music and fingering shown or exported from the Wohlfahrt studies, including the PDFs and song files) is shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. You may share and adapt it, as long as you credit Philipp Büttgenbach and Aria’s Violin Studio and share your version under the same licence. This licence does not cover the rest of the website, the apps’ program code, or our videos and MP3 tracks.

Kreutzer 42 Studies (fingerboard apps)

The music of Rodolphe Kreutzer (1766–1831) is in the public domain. Our Kreutzer fingerboard apps were transcribed by Aria’s Violin Studio from the 1908 B. F. Wood edition revised by C. Grün, a public-domain edition scanned on IMSLP. No digital edition was copied: every note was read from the printed music.

What we did: converted the music into playable data for the violin fingerboard; wrote out trills, mordents and grace notes as notes (following Aria’s practice rules); kept double stops and chords of up to four notes; added string and finger numbers (keeping the edition’s printed fingers); added practice speeds. Where two voices move separately (mostly Nos. 36–42) they are written as chords. Aria is still auditing the notes and fingerings; corrections are welcome at aria135246@gmail.com.

The transcription and fingering (the file kreutzer-studies.js, and the music shown or exported from the Kreutzer studies) are © Aria Education Limited 2026, like the rest of the site: you are welcome to use them for practice and lessons.
